Marketing activities: Telemarketing |
Telemarketing
Out-bound telemarketing, where you phone the customer, is
used in many business to keep in contact with existing
customers. It is also used in some markets to cold-call new
customers, but this is declining as customers do not often
welcome the intrusion. In-bound telemarketing is basically
order taking and customer service, but it does offer
opportunities for cross selling and up selling to customers.
The disciplines of an inside sales force have many things in
common with a field sale force. Points of difference include
the need to provide a relatively tight script for the call and
the need for system driven prompts to generate call lists.
Telemarketing usually has more impact than Direct mail and
less than a field sales force. The costs also lie somewhere
between the costs of the other two methods.
