Marketing activities: Market Research |
Market Research
When well done, research can provide powerful insight into
customer needs and you can then translate this into a
competitive advantage. Qualitative studies like focus groups
will identify opinions and perceptions, while larger
quantitative studies are required to measure things like the
size of a market segment, or how prevalent and opinion is
among a target customer group. The two most common reasons why
investment in research does not offer good value are:
- The problem has not been
defined in enough detail. If you don't
understand the problem, you
will not understand the answer.
- The research has not been
specified to produce an actionable
answer. You should frame the
question in terms of 'what can I do
about...'.
It is surprising how many seasoned professionals make these
simple mistakes.
