Starting A Blog – A Step By Step Guide
A blog is an opportunity for you to show
your expertise on any topic and to share your knowledge and
experience with other web users. It can be an interesting
hobby or it can be of real business value. A good blog can
build you a global reputation in your specialist field. Good
blogs are also highly valued by search engines, so linking
your blog to your website can help improve your search engine
rankings, assuming your blog and your site topics are
related.
It is possible to have a blog as part of
your website structure and you should ask your webmaster about
this. I prefer to keep my blog separate from my site and I
will assume that you will do the same. This is a simple guide
to setting up a blog using a service by Blogger.com. If you
follow these steps, you can be blogging in 20 minutes.
Visit
www.blogger.com .
Scroll down and on the right hand side of
the page, click on Create Your Blog Now
Fill in the simple account form. You must
give a valid email address.
Choose a title for your blog.
Choose a URL for your blog. If does not
really matter if it is related to your topic or not so you can
indulge yourself if you want and pick something outrageous. If
you pick the title PinkFurrySlippers, your web address will be
http://www.pinkfurryslippers.blogspot.com. Don’t click on
the link. It doesn’t really exist yet.

Click to go to the next stage
You then need to pick a graphical
template for your blog. Choose a style that suits your topic
as well as your personal taste.
You are now ready to start posting. If
you have a topic prepared, write your post and then hit the
publish button. If you type in your URL in another browser
window, you can read your thoughts, directly over the
internet.
There are a lot of settings for you to
play with on the site, but your immediate priority should be
to edit your profile and to add a link from your blog your
website. Both can be achieved from the blogger control panel.
