DO:Explain to your list why
they got the mail.
Tell your audience how they subscribed to receive it and why
you feel it will be useful to them. It can also help if you
are clear upfront about how they can unsubscribe at any time.
Email regularly
It is not easy to gain the trust of your email list. You
must have enough contact for them to remember your valuable
content from your last mail. At the same time you must avoid
mailing so often that you overload people. The key is to ask a
representative group for feedback.
Stick to your topic
You need to spend so much time gaining trust and
credibility in your core topic, that you cannot afford to not
to stay on topic. If you want to vent your feelings on a range
of issues, get a
personal blog.
Keep your messages short and to the point
This is an instant medium and it is one where your reader
will regularly skim whole pages, yet will feel that they have
read all the content. Avoid long sentences. Keep paragraphs
short. Make your point and move on.
Look interesting and professional
Create a professional impression. Your template can be
simple, but it should look appealing.
Be clear about your purpose and stick to it
Is your mail to inform, or to sell, or to capture leads,
or to build your brand. When you know what you want make sure
your mail delivers it. Avoid the temptation to do too many
things at the same time.
Stick to the rules
Obey the law at all
times.
Don't
Send irrelevant messages
Be clear in your opt-ins about what you will send and
stick to those topics.
Over Communicate
This could be too many messages, or ones that are too
long.
Use poor grammar or sloppy phrasing
If this is not your strength, use someone else to do it
for you, to at least proof-read your work.
Send broken links or missing images
Always test ever aspect of your mailing before sending it.
